Recently,
Natomas has been singled out and all new building has been halted since Femma indicated that the area was not secure from flooding around the levees with the 200 year flood protection.
In March, we will all be asked to vote for an increase in our property taxes to fund flood protection for Sacramento County. Safca (The Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency) estimates that if there was a flood it would cover 102 square miles and have billions of dollars of damage to people and businesses which would take years to recover from. The top 3 priorities for this tax are:
This is being called an investment in Sacramento safety.
Natomas which currently pays no flood insurance would pay $67/year, Downtown and Midtown who pay $18/yr would pay $76/year.
Safca has placed a calculator on their website but you have to know your APN number in order to find out how much your taxes would be.
I guess Safeca thinks everyone knows their APN number go figure. If you dont happen to know yours, just email me with your address and Ill be happy to look it up for you.
Typically, you can find this number on your tax bill, if you have it handy. Above is the map representing who will benefit from this assessment. You can always see a larger view of any of my photos by simply clicking on the photo.
How will you vote on this issue?

The devil is in the detail. Take a good look at your map. 43rd st is in yellow and everything around it is green or white. Strange? Is there someone on this street that the city does’nt like? I wonder who else is getting skrewed on this project?
Hugh Courtney,
I betcha there will be a lot of unhappy people before all is said and done. Some have been paying forced flood insurance for a long time while others never have. It’s an interesting weight of the have’s and the have nots.
