The Elk Grove, CA Promenade Shopping Mall was approved by the City Council of Elk Grove on Wednesday night.
The Promenade Mall, an open air mall is set to open October 2008 and provide within the first year of opening 2,500 new jobs for Elk Grove citizens along with a sales tax revenue expected of $4 million.
Now, doesnt that make more sense than building yet more homes? Its time to bring some jobs into Elk Grove. This is a good start. Next is big business higher paying jobs. If you want a City to prosper, in my opinion you need to focus on establishing new business partners along with controlled, responsible growth. There are plenty of cities to emulate that have done just that.
Controversy has been brewing over building the new Promenade Open-air mall in Elk Grove that will take up 107 acres at Grant Line and Hwy 99. Whether you are a fan of Open Air Malls such as the one in El Dorado Hills or if you like the old stand-by closed mall such as the Arden Fair Mall, you must agree that bringing in revenue to the City of Elk Grove is a good thing.
Along with generated revenue, the Chicago-based firm General Growth Properties will be spending $25 million on roads, sewer and water lines to build the Promenade Mall. For further reading about the Elk Grove Promenade Mall check out the Sacramento Bee article.
There will never be a consensus on which stores the majority would like to see in the Mall. The anchors will not come if they dont see the ability for revenue. It is the job of the Elk Grove citizens to frequently shop once Promenade Mall opens and prove that the City can support good anchor stores. Perhaps, more anchor stores will be added.
Change is always hard and harder for some more than others. Support your City and the businesses within your City if you want the area to grow and prosper. This type of Real Estate is an asset to a community so give it a chance, support and welcome the Promenade Mall.
