Homeowner Tip

Flood InsuranceSacramento homeowner tip that will save you money and damage.

Just as the Fall leaves are turning and Winter approaches, I thought this would be an excellent time to serve as a reminder to clean those rain gutters on your home before the Winter storms do their damage.

But mostly, what I thought I would pass on is how important it is to have flood insurance on your home. Did you know that most flood damage in a home is caused by the sewers backing up into the houses? And were you also aware that your regular insurance company does NOT cover that damage?

Flood insurance for your house is not that expensive especially when obtaining it when it is not required. Since the weather is ever changing everywhere and no one seems to be able to understand our weather patterns, it is likely that more severe storms will hit many areas that never thought they would ever have a problem.

Sacramento is surrounded by many rivers so the likelihood of a flood for some is a possibility.

Check with your Home Insurance carrier and see how much it will cost you. It’s worth a phone call. I’d rather be safe than sorry so this year I opted to take out flood insurance. So, when the rains start, I’ll simply put my fireplace on, have a glass of wine and relax…I’m covered.

Now, don’t forget to clean out those gutters! And while you’re at it, change the air filter before turning on the heater. Not only does this keep the air in your home cleaner but it also helps with the cost of running your heater. A check of your heater and air conditioner twice per year helps prolong the life of both the heater and air conditioning unit.

  1. WOW re: “If I had a website on MySpace.com I would need additional coverage in case of being sued from someone on the site. I’ve thought long and hard about that one and wonder what type of liability there is with all the young people on this site in terms of their parent’s assets.”

wow! You do learn something new each day! I was going to make a comment on flood insurance but this so stupifies me I can’t remember what it was.
