Wilton, CA is Elk Groves neighbor. The zip code for Wilton is 95693 and located just 20 miles from Sacramento. Wilton is Country at its best. You will find farms, agriculture and orchards. In the last two years a new Real Estate development called The Ranch sprung up amid this farms and ranches. The Ranch has new contemporary ranch style homes on 2-4 acre lots for sale.

When driving into Wilton, very few people realize that where the main shops are, is not Wilton, but the town of Sheldon. Dont blink or you will miss Sheldon. Many of the locals shop at the Ace Hardware Store and the day I was taking pictures a local cowboy was choosing his shovel. It’s a friendly town where you can release your stress and tension and just take in the countryside.

The Sheldon Inn is not an Inn at all, it is a restaurant. The Sheldon Inn is one of 3 restaurants located on the main drag. The Trading Post and feed store are about all you will find in terms of commercial before turning into Wilton.

As you travel along the luscious country road in Wilton, passing the vineyards and farms there will be a fork in the road. This is where one of the first grocery stores, antique store, saddle shop and auto repair store are still located.

Up the road a piece is Wiltons finest, the Wilton Fire Department. The day I was there, a telephone pole across from the Fire Department broke in half and so there was lots of excitement around the area.

Whenever I feel the need to relax and unwind, a nice drive to Wilton calms the soul. Its a peaceful area with a lot of Country. Homes around the Wilton area vary. Most of the time you will see farms and barns. Every now and then there is a new large well appointed home. All homes have acreage in this rural area, called Wilton. I hope it continues to remain the Country.

The Ranch is a new subdivision with 2-4 acre lots located on the outskirts of Wilton. There are still a few lots for sale at The Ranch. JTS is the builder and these Equestrian ranches sometimes have casitas which can either be used as a teenage get-way, guest house, pool house or more garage and storage space.  With equestrian trails it’s no wonder horse lovers enjoy living at The Ranch.

Wandering through Wilton, I came upon an Adult Resort, called Laguna Del Sol where clothing is optional. There is something for everyone.

The best part was seeing the horses and the cows the country has, such a wonderful feel to it, very relaxing! Sometimes, you might just catch one of the herd giving birth.

Gena…I never imagined California to so country. Funny I always though big city..smog but your description and virtual tour made me realize how wrong I am. Very nice article.

  2. Gena says:

    Monika,
Thanks for stopping by & viewing the tour. Yes, Wilton, CA is Country living with wide open spaces. Perceptions are not always right…that’s why I do the tours so new home buyers can get a feel for an areas when considering where to buy their home. Thank you for visiting and commenting. Glad you liked the show and got a flavor of Wilton, CA.

  3. Gena,
I never realized how large an area you cover..

  4. Gena says:

Kaye, our areas all flow into one another and my clients of course are in Sacramento County (several communities/cities), Placer County (Roseville,Granite Bay, Auburn, Loomis) and El Dorado County (El Dorado Hills, Cameron Park, Shingle Springs). I stay within those counties and add Yolo County but only West Sacramento within Yolo County.

I am a former Wilton resident (grew up there and am now in grad school out-of-state) and my parents have resided in Wilton since 1976. They are also part of the group that is trying to keep the large developers away from their property. Have you ever considered that if more people move to Wilton that Wilton will not be Wilton? And the comment about a cowboy choosing a shovel…that was unnecessary. Should we go to the Ace Hardware “in the big city” and watch an “urban cowboy” choose his shovel and make a slide show for the internet? Should the Wiltonians hitch up their horses and ride into town and be shocked by the motor vehicles on the road? You have given me the feeling that you are trying to profit off of the people (and their lifestyle) who love their land and are trying to maintain their surroundings. Please do not insult the Wilton residents with such country-cliches as “can you smell the country?”.

  6. Gena Riede says:

Cindy, I happen to love the smell of the country and I think most folks do that love the country. So, it’s a “good thing.”

And as far at the cowboy chosing his shovel, that’s what he was doing and I asked if I could take his photo.

Not sure why you took offense but I happen to like Wilton and I am very much in favor of small business like the local hardware store in Sheldon.

I would much rather see the locals keep the acreage and the new tract homes not come take over. When I want to get centered and feel calm, I drive to Wilton and watch the calves and see nature at its best.

So, I love the smell of Country.
