Once a sleepy little town with one stoplight, this centrally located town became a City in 2000. Within 20 minutes at most, from Downtown Sacramento, and flanking Interstate 5 and Highway 99 this new City has grown leaps and bounds. It is home to the Elk Grove Unified School District where teachers flock to work and where new schools have been built and continue to be built in record number.
Elk Grove is tremendously large, large enough to handle three different zip codes; 95624, 95757, 95758 and yet still growing!
The school district in Elk Grove is the Elk Grove Unified School District. This school district has been incredibly popular in the past and they've had to open multiple new schools a year in order to keep up with the demand.

Old Town Elk Grove
For a nostalgic look at Elk Grove, Old Town is located on Elk Grove Boulevard just east of Hwy. 99 where you can sit and sip a variety of beers from the Elk Grove Brewery or stroll the pedestrian-friendly streets and shop in quaint antique stores or visit one of my favorite, the Secret Garden where you can find an assortment of garden adornments.
Elk Grove Park
Don't forget to wander around Elk Grove Regional Park and make sure to attend the Strauss Festival performed each year in late July where Johann Strauss Waltz comes alive with dancers and actors in period costumes. Elk Grove has over 50 parks and totaling over 140 acres for its residents.
Elk Grove Park is a popular destination and features baseball and soccer programs. With over 50 parks covering over 140 acres of lush landscaping and recreational amenities with a skate park and swim center as well as picnic areas, softball fields and preserved wild-life areas. The City is divided into major areas including Laguna West, Laguna Creek, Elk Grove proper and East Elk Grove.
Elk Grove Shopping
Current shopping is accomplished by popular chain stores located throughout Elk Grove or by driving to Arden Mall in Sacramento. However, a proposed retail shopping mall is in the planning stages and will be called The Elk Grove Promenade. It will be 1.2 million square feet and surrounding satellite retail of about 1.8 million square feet.
